Despite my original thought that this would do well, it's quickly turning into a phenomenon. Still, I question whether or not the hoards of people who pledge to go on opening day will.
That said, at work we're all trying to convince the managers to screen it for us in advance.
Because you gotta get those motherfu--ing snakes off that motherfu--ing plane. _________________ Danny Baldwin

Am I the only person alive not particularly interested in this movie? I'm sure I'll see it eventually, and perhaps even enjoy it, but I just can't get worked up about it. It places pretty low on my priority list. _________________ "When I was in Barcelona they showed pornography on regular television. But it's called Snakes on a Plane! How could you not be interested?
But, really, I'm not so much interested in the movie as in the ridiculous hype it has generated based soley on its title and Sam Jackson's participation. The teaser trailer did make me laugh, though, if only for Jackson's already-immortal line: "Enough is enough. I've had it with these snakes." I smell Oscar. _________________ Michael Scrutchin

The point is right there in the title. It's, like, the most honest movie title ever. _________________ Michael Scrutchin

The reason given for no press screenings is that "the fans deserve to see it at the same time that critics do."

Quote: | the fans deserve to see it at the same time that critics do. |
I don't really know what that means, but I will say that I'm a big believer in watching movies in their natural habitat--and I don't think press screenings qualify. As far as I know, the only professional critic to routinely eschew press screenings for public screenings--and accept that her reviews would be delayed a week or longer--was Pauline Kael. (I can't imagine ever wanting to see, say, Harry Potter with a bunch of critics instead of an auditorium brimming with wide-eyed kids.)
A separate note: Regarding the current desire for critics to "scoop" other outlets and be the first to offer an opinion, I'd say that speed generally translates into snap judgments, which often yields glib, dismissive, and conventional criticism. I'd rather wait for a critic to offer a more measured response divided from the heat of hype. _________________ "When I was in Barcelona they showed pornography on regular television. Semi-Snakes related:
iTunes Music Store: Samuel L. Jackson's Playlist
He has pretty good taste -- Miles Davis, Curtis Mayfield, My Morning Jacket, A Tribe Called Quest, Arcade Fire, Sly & the Family Stone, etc. Also on his list is an unsigned alt-country-tinged pop/rock band out of L.A. called Signal Hill Transmission. The iTunes audio sample sent me searching for their website, and based on the songs streaming there, I dig 'em a whole lot. I think Samuel L. Jackson may have turned me onto a new band. As if he wasn't already the coolest man on the planet. _________________ Michael Scrutchin
