This is a baseball thread. Which means it is a thread mostly about the Milwaukee Brewers.
I've been hanging on every pitch over the first five games, watching the Brew Crew come from behind to win every one of 'em. Today, ninth-inning heroics from J.J. Hardy and Carlos Lee preserved the undefeated streak, and Prince Fielder, with three hits, finally smashed out of his funk.
5-0! That ties the record for second-best start in franchise history (1978). This team isn't going to break the 1987 start of 13 straight victories, but games like today's remind me of what it felt like back in '87. Who could ever forget the Nieves no-hitter that April, or the ninth-inning come-from-behind heroics of Dale Sveum and Rob Deer that Easter Sunday? And who can overlook how Dale Sveum is back in Milwaukee this year, coaching third base?
The pitching staff looks very sharp, the young guys are playing with intelligence, and the bats are making up for some iffy defense. Right now, it's great fun to be a Brewers fan. _________________ "When I was in Barcelona they showed pornography on regular television. 1-3 isn't exactly an enthralling record for a Padres fan to look at.
Still, I don't think they've played much better than that. _________________ Danny Baldwin

Meanwhile, we continue to fall father from .500 and lose again to the Rockies. I just need to keep telling myself that it's early in the season. _________________ Danny Baldwin

Wow, after starting out great, the pitching has been awful, both starting and bullpen. Brewers are riding an 8 game losing streak, getting swept by the Pirates and Nationals . Hopefully they can turn this around quickly and get healthy. So much for those Wild Card dreams |

My wife and I relocated last week, and the cable still isn't installed. The only good thing? I can't watch the Brewers. _________________ "When I was in Barcelona they showed pornography on regular television. Don't worry Beltman, I am sure the cable will be back in time for football season, in case you were wondering 98 more days until college football starts! |
