Damn right.
Over all, completely predictable. I actually got 83% correct in my predictions.
Oh, and Memoirs of a Geisha winning Best Cinematography? Bleeeeeech. Ugly, ugly work.
Stewart was fine but definitely neutered. His best comment was about the montage of Oscar montages. That was the only thing that seemed to come from him. "The Daily Show" tomorrow should be interesting if he's back for it.

(I didn't hate the movie, but, yeah, weak.)
Yay for Hoffman. I was rooting for Amy Adams, but alas...
Only big surprise of the evening: "It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp" wins Best Song.

Oh, I forgot.
Most unintentionally funny moment: Within a minute of the montage of important films that tackle important issues, up pops an extended scene from The Day After Tomorrow. I nearly pissed myself laughing.

That was funny... we all cracked up, too. Even better was Stewart's comment about how "none of those issues were ever a problem again." Notice how nobody in the auditorium seemed to think that swipe at Hollywood's self-importance was funny?
I also enjoyed Clooney's acceptance speech about feeling proud about being "out of touch." It was the gutsiest comment all night--but it was guts mixed with class. (Much better than when he made that Abramoff comment at the Globes, which was uncalled for, misjudged, and deeply uncool.)

During the presentation of the song, I wanted the camera to scan the front row so I could see all of Hollywood's rich, white elite gettin' down to "It's Hard Out Here For a Pimp." I'm guessing that award was a version of liberal guilt in action. Side note: Ever notice how Hollywood is willing to give African-Americans nominations and awards--as long as those awards are for acting according to minstrel show stereotypes?

I agree that it's a silly song, and its win surprised me, but c'mon, look at its competition. While "In the Deep" and "Travelin' Thru" might be better songs, they're still bland, forgettable original-song material. I'd wager that "Pimp" had the edge because it's the only one of those three songs that tends to get stuck in your head after a listen or two. I don't care for much modern hip-hop (at least not the popular mainstream stuff), but the song was definitely bouncing around in my head for a few days after watching Hustle & Flow. The songwriting quality is questionable, but it's certainly a memorable, catchy tune, unlike the other two.

Me too. I think that was the one that was supposed to be nominated, given the characters censor the title themselves in the movie. Silly Academy; it could've saved itself the trouble of changing "bitch" to "witch" in every one of the song's 567 choruses.
