So, yeah, I may be gone for the next few days.
I feel terrible for the Katrina refugees who are here in Houston now and have to move again... _________________ Michael Scrutchin

Wow. I hadn't even thought of that.
Good luck. You'll be in our thoughts.

I'm back. Left Pearland on Wednesday at 8:00pm. My cousin and I take my car, following my parents and brother. We had no idea we'd be on the road for the next 30 hours -- sitting mostly, not driving (average speed: three miles per hour). No gas anywhere. Little food. Despite the unbelievable heat, the depleting gas supply, and the hurricane on our tails, everyone in this crazy mess remains pretty cool -- people eagerly helping strangers, somehow retaining a sense of humor. Still, after 17 hours, keeping your eyes open is the hard part, but since you're only going two or three miles per hour, there won't be too much damage if you doze off and hit the car in front of you. After 30 hours on the road -- about 48 hours without sleep, at least for my dad and I -- we make it to my dad's aunt's house in Center, Texas.
The drive back only took seven hours.
I'll be back later; just wanted to check in here. _________________ Michael Scrutchin

I had been wondering how you were over the last few days. Glad to hear everyone's okay, despite the grueling road trip. Keep us posted.
