Well, it's six in the morning here, and the Oscar nominations have just been announced. Before Sunset finally gets its due for dialogue. I also feel very bad for Brad Bird, who was told by a clumsy E! Channel interviewer that he was up for Best Director, over the phone, when he isn't.

Huh. I've actually seen 3 of the nominated shorts.

Although I didn't love Sideways, I was still rooting for Paul Giamatti. Bummer.

Even though I disliked it, I was hoping The Future of Food would've been up for a funky nomination. None of the shorts/docs they showed at the qualification presentation at my theatre made it.

If Finding Neverland wins anything I'll eat my shoe. That's right! My shoe! And I'll like it, too!

I am holding you to this.

Did you really dislike Neverland that much? I though it was a formulaic tearjerker, but at least it was well-executed. For what it is, I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Every year I see hundreds of foreign and nonfiction films, and every year they manage to nominate stuff I failed to catch. The nerve.

I agree entirely. At this point, I wouldn't be mad if Finding Neverland won Best Picture. I think I enjoyed Sideways and The Aviator more, and have yet to see Million Dollar Baby, but it's not all that bad of a pick, for a terrible year in cinema.

I sincerely hope Sideways bows with as many awards as it can get its hands on.

I did find Finding Neverland dreadfully boring and dull, but it may not be worthy of me eating my shoe if it wins. But hey, I made a promise, and I'll keep it, gosh darn it.

Maybe when you eat your shoe you could make a film about it and it could nominated in the shorts category next year? That would show the oscars!!

That's a good idea. It worked for Chaplin, after all.

I'm a little irked that I've only seen two of the pictures nominated for Best Picture this year (The Aviator and Ray), although I'm hoping to partially rectify that this Monday when I head down to Lancaster to catch Million Dollar Baby. (Fingers crossed.)

I haven't seen any of them, but I'll be catching Sideways, The Aviator, Million Dollar Baby, and Ray within the next couple of weeks. Finding Neverland I don't have much interest in, but I'll see it eventually -- probably when it hits DVD in March.

I'm happy about Don Cheadle's nomination, though I haven't seen Hotel Rwanda yet. He's one of my favorite actors, and he was the best thing about the otherwise terminally ugh United States of Leland (okay, the soundtrack was damn good too).

Now that I've seen all the nominees for Best Picture, I officially have my fingers crossed for Million Dollar Baby. If it doesn't win I'll be happy with Sideways or The Aviator. I'll grudgingly accept Ray, or at least the great first half of Ray, and pretend it ended before devolving into routine cinematic short-hand. If Finding Neverland wins, I'll lick my Doc Martins for a full minute to show solidarity for Matt.
