|
|
I have survived 1st semester in college, studying art, and I have came up with different ways of thinking about art.
Unlike my original definition of art that i had in the beginning of the year, i realized that Art is a way of expressing your true self.
It is like drawing out your deepest part of yourself, sometimes while you are not realizing, and creating something that reflects your true self, thoughts, and your way of life.
Art is recreation your memory and dreams. It is way of searching for your identity.
Please give me some response, if u have time =] |

Mostly out of curiosity, xbluevinx, where do you go to college? Your definition of art is one I can agree with and identify with. _________________ "I don't like talking to people I know, but strangers I have no problem with." -- Larry David, "Curb Your Enthusiasm" |

What was your original definition? Your revised definition works perfectly well as a functional or pragmatic one for practicing artists. For myself, I'd maybe revise it a little more to read, "Art is an exploration of self." "True" carries the taint of absolutes, and absolutes strike me as sterile and limiting. _________________ "If you're talking about censorship, and what things should be shown and what things shouldn't be shown, I've said that as an artist you have no social responsibility whatsoever."

I think what's really at the core is the difference between prescriptive and descriptive philosophies. I'm not interested in prescribing what art should be; rather, I'm interested in describing what art can be. For me, the definition of art ought to be as inclusionary as possible.
