And I mean real guilt; not like, "Oh, I'd be so ashamed if someone caught me watching Yume, since it's commonly regarded as one of Kurosawa's lesser works." Bad movies you like, and I want you blushin'. Like this:
Maximum Overdrive (King, 1986)
Wet Hot American Summer (Wain, 2001)
Graveyard Shift (Singleton, 1990)
It Conquered the World (Corman, 1956)
Prophecy (Frankenheimer, 1979)
Neon Maniacs (Mangine, 1986)
Without Warning (Clark, 1980)
Cyborg (Pyun, 1989)
Nemesis (Pyun, 1993)
Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (Marcus, 1993)
There you go, two Albert Pyun movies, and one of 'em's a Jean-Claude Van Damme vehicle. I made it easy for you guys. |

Oh, come on! Jason Goes to Hell is a pretty damn good movie! (Well, for a Friday the 13th movie it's pretty imaginative and it's executed with a lot more skill than most in the series.) Nothing to feel guilty about there. I'll be back later with a list of some of my guilty pleasures. _________________ Michael Scrutchin

Well, JGTH is hated by Friday the 13th fans, so I figured if they don't like a movie... |

Wet Hot American Summer? Owen Gleiberman named it one of the the year's Ten Best. While I wouldn't go nearly that far, I thought it had patches of genuinely funny stuff.
Be back later with a list of humiliating faves. Perhaps now is a good time to confess that I really, really like Boston's first album.

Hey, I'm just going by the general consensus. American Summer got a 26% on the Tomatometer at rottentomatoes.com. What, next someone's going to be shocked I listed Maximum Overdrive? |

Whenever anyone ever trashes "Waterworld," I feel a very strong urge to defend it; same goes for "Wronfully Accused," although I rarely act upon that urge. |

"Wrongfully Accused," by the way. I would also add these:
Austin Powers in Goldmember (Roach, 2002)
BASEketball (Zucker, 1998)
Cats Don't Dance (Dindall, 1997)
Deep Blue Sea (Harlin, 2000)
Godzilla 2000 (Okawara, 2000)
Happy Gilmore (Dugan, 1996)
I Love Trouble (Shyer, 1994)
The Legend (aka Fong Sai-Yuk, Yuen, 1993)
The Majestic (Darabont, 2001)
Mission to Mars (De Palma, 2000)
The Sixth Man (Miller, 1997)
Sphere (Levinson, 1998)
Zoolander (Stiller, 2001)
I have a weakness for extremely stupid comedies; can you tell? |

Yeah, I like most of those, too. From last year-there were a couple of movies most people couldn't stand that I liked. I throughly enjoyed Halloween 8, and didn't think The Master of Disguise was as bad as most people did. _________________ Danny Baldwin

There are many widely disparaged films that I like, but don?t consider guilty pleasures because no guilt is involved; I think works such as The Cable Guy, Cry-baby, The Majestic, Costner?s The Postman, and Better Off Dead can be artistically defended. But here?s a bunch that provoke genuine guilt:
Adventures in Babysitting (Columbus, 1987)
Amazing Grace and Chuck (Newell, 1987)
Armageddon (Bay, 1998)
The ?Burbs (Dante, 1989)
Driven (Harlin, 2001)
Enemy Mine (Peterson, 1985)
Gossip (Guggenheim, 2000)
Gotcha! (Kanew, 1985)
Kissing a Fool (Ellin, 1998)
The Last Starfighter (Castle, 1984)
Mr. Nice Guy (Hung, 1997)
One Crazy Summer (Holland, 1986)
Oscar (Landis, 1991)
Rambo III (MacDonald, 1988)
Scrooged (Donner, 1988)
Tai Chi Master (Yuen, 1993)
Undercover Blues (Ross, 1993)
What Planet Are You From? (Nichols, 2000)

Matt, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who likes The Sixth Man. I'll never forget seeing that one, since a couple of guys got tossed out of the screening for their reefer madness. That theater (Silver Cinemas near Good Hope and 76th) was usually interesting; parking was always difficult because most of the lot was perpetually covered in broken bottles. Most of the auditoriums smelled like rancid B.O., too. Sadly, it closed down a few years ago.

No, I think the Brady movies might make my list, too. I might also add Freddy vs. Jason--I concede a twinge of guilt when I explain that I, uh, sorta, kinda, you know, had a good time.

The "Brady" movies made me laugh, too, although I've never revisited them. _________________ "If you're talking about censorship, and what things should be shown and what things shouldn't be shown, I've said that as an artist you have no social responsibility whatsoever."

Yes, yes, yes! I think it's hilarious.
The one I always think of is Walter Hill's Last Man Standing. You know, Yojimbo with Bruce Willis? Completely ridiculous excuse for an insane body count but fun too.
I don't typically feel guilty for the movies I like, although since no one else but me liked Swimfan, maybe I should more often. _________________ "Film lovers are sick people."
