While Fiona Apple's new album Extraordinary Machine languishes on the shelf at Sony Music, a couple of tracks have leaked. You can download the title track at ptanderson.com and here's a direct link to a "rough mix" of "Better Version of Me" -- um, here. "Better Version of Me" doesn't do much for me, but "Extraordinary Machine" is pretty good and getting better with each listen. Jon Brion's presence as producer is obvious (kinda Punch-Drunk Love-esque). With these two tracks, it's impossible to say if the album lives up to When the Pawn..., but I'm hopeful. Unfortunately, it seems Sony doesn't know what to do with the album (Jon Brion revealed in a March interview with Rolling Stone that Sony can't find a single and doesn't know how to market it). I wonder if this will be another Yankee Hotel Foxtrot situation.
