Can you believe it's been 10 years since Kurt Cobain died?

I still remember when I heard the news. My wife and I (still a few months from being married) were scouting for apartments in Green Bay, driving along Danz Avenue. The car radio reported his death, and I was stunned--not necessarily surprised, but certainly saddened.

We took the apartment and lived there for 3 years. And I still think "All Apologies" is one of the greatest songs of the Nineties.

I was a mere nine years old when Cobain died and knew absolutely nothing of Nirvana at the time; in fact, I've only started actively listening to their music in the last year or so. They are, I think, perhaps the best band of the 90s, certainly in importance, but definitely musically also: some of their songs I listen to about once a week as sort of a meditative release. I couldn't feel the shock and sadness at the time, but I'm starting to feel it now.

I was disappointed with the media hype at the time, but in retrospect it seems Nirvana was incredibly influential on music.

Never was a huge Nirvana fan, but I always liked them. Cobain did write some truly great songs -- "All Apologies" is one my favorites -- and it's tough to overestimate the impact Nirvana had on rock music, for better or worse. The success of Nevermind opened the radio floodgates for "alternative rock" (a classification that's meaningless now, and was stupid to begin with), and rock radio was forever changed.

But "best band of the '90s"?

I think I'd go with Pavement on that one.

I didn't start listening to Nivana or anything until like 6th grade, but they are certainly one of my biggest inspirations as a young musician. Too bad Kurt hadda go and blow his head out like that.

i dont know if i've ever heard his music. and if i have, i didnt know it. lol, im not very well versed when it comes to music because im not very picky about what i listen to.

Couldn't then, and still can't, stand the man or his music. Part of this is explained by the fact that I'm a diehard Killing Joke fan, but mostly I just found him and his music boring.
