I suppose I lean more towards styles than genres: absurdity, surrealism, and psychological realism get my mojo working. There are examples of these styles in nearly every genre that I love (the suspense flick Repulsion, the comedy Mon Oncle, the sci-fi 12 Monkeys and The Man Who Fell to Earth, and so on). But there are genres I am especially fond of, including the screwball comedy, mysteries, the "caper" film (especially those made in France by Jules Dassin and Jean-Pierre Melville), kung-fu (especially Tsui Hark), film noir, and the Western (especially the Spaghetti Western). I often don't enjoy war movies, but there are obviously exceptions.
Oh, and the French New Wave rocks the house. |

HKAT, Westerns, ACCURATE war films (all six or eight of them... ), classic horror, action/adventure, and anything with John Wayne... even The Green Berets, damn it. _________________ "I'm very well aquainted with the Seven Deadly Sins;

I'm interested in everything, probably because I'm fascinated by the sociological, historical, and cultural strands of genre subcultures. (I can easily enjoy months studying the history of Hong Kong cinema without actually thinking much of it is any good.) I suppose it's easier to list the types of films I sometimes consider a chore: juvenile comedies and overblown actioners.
