In honor of the FlipsideDVDs.com launch yesterday, I thought i'd create this thread. If you're like me, you spend almost every paycheck on DVDs. As of today, I have 287 DVDs and 376 Titles. Here is my collection: http://www.dvdaficionado.com/dvds.html?cat=1&sub=All&id=the+l.+horowitz+collection

What DVDs have you picked up recently?

Yesterday, a friend and I went to a local indie shop and to Best Buy, and I picked up the following:

Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) - 2-Disc Platinum Edition (Came with free Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) DVD, but I already have the superior Region 2 DVD, so i'm selling it)

WWE - The Ultimate Ric Flair Collection

Robin Hood (1922)

The Grapes of Wrath - Studio Classics

Meet Me In St. Louis - 2-Disc Special Edition

I also borrowed these Criterion DVD from my film teacher: Walkabout, Diary of a Country Priest, The Last Wave, and Straw Dogs...looking forward to watching all of these over the vacation.

I've been going crazy for Japanese horror lately. To my collection over the past two weeks I've added the Ju-On series, Suicide Club, Long Dream, Tomie, Tomie Replay, and Kiyoshi Kurosawa's Cure and Kairo. Kurosawa's impressed the hell out of me so far and I'm planning on getting every movie of his I can lay my hands on.

I too purchase many DVDs, but I never exceed budget. Currently I own about 750 titles. Roughly 150 of those are short films; and about 70 are silent. Here are the latest additions:

Dawn of the Dead (Romero 1978)

The Secret Lives of Dentists (Rudolph 2003)

School of Rock (Linklater 2003)

American Splendor (Berman and Pulcini 2003)

Sex and Lucia (Medem, Spain 2001)

Schindler's List (Spielberg 1993)

The Quiet American (Noyce 2002)

Blue Car (Moncrieff 2003)

The Bear (Annaud, France 1989)

Millennium Actress (Kon, Japan 2002)

The Underneath (Soderbergh 1995)

Ararat (Egoyan, Canada 2002)

Plus some W.C. Fields shorts

To ease financial constraints, I almost always purchase used DVDs, either at video stores, eBay, or Amazon. I also look for bargains wherever I can find them. Only for two of the discs listed above--Dawn and Schindler's--did I pay full price.

How is that one? While I wasn't quite as impressed with Perfect Blue as everyone else seemed to be, I thought it was a very good movie and made me look forward to Satoshi Kon's next film. Both Actress and Blue seem to have similar themes.

Just had a birthday and got these on eBay:

21 Grams

Schindler's List

8 Mile

Hero
(Reigion 0. Can't Wait)

The Magdalene Sisters

Runaway Jury

Titanic

Shanghai Noon

I tend to buy entertaining movies over great ones, but here there is a pretty wide variety.

I'm also bidding right now on a Laserdisc player with 6 movies included, as well as copies of The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys and The Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course.

Hey Fred, great DVD collection that you've got there!

And Danny, I can't believe you're going to buy The Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course!

My DVD collection can be found right here, by the way. I actually have about 200 DVDs, but some of them are my sisters' or my brothers' so they're not all there.

He's all right, I suppose. I don't watch the show too often, but...

Okay, now I admit: I own it. Well, I don't really, but my brother bought it, and so it forms part of our DVD collection after all. Can't say it's a very good film, though.

I do dig Shanghai Noon, however.

Well, you're talking to the guy who owns Dude! Where's My Car?, Big Momma's House, and Zoolander. Oops...shouldn't have said that.

I did enjoy Big Momma's House, actually -- the other two I haven't seen. I also love Hot Shots and Hot Shots! Part Deux [own them both] and many Ah-nuld flicks. Oh yes, how I waste my money.

Nice collection there, Mr. Lime. However, it is missing Treasure of the Sierra Madre. A character defect, perhaps. Wink

I too own a few "bad" films, but I enjoy them for one reason or another, nonetheless: House of 1,000 Corpses, FearDotCom, Abbott & Costello Meet the Mummy, Alien 3, Theatre of Death, She-Wolf of London, Hell Up in Harlem, Mannaja: A Man Called Blade, and Django il Bastardo...*shrugs* Confused
