Them! rocks. I'm also partial to Day of the Triffids (not quite a bug movie, of course, but certainly in the same zip code).

The magic might return. Your taste might have developed past the point where your able to appreciate the movie one way, but you might be able to find your way back to it via another angle. I mentioned something like that with me in an earlier post. _________________ "If you're talking about censorship, and what things should be shown and what things shouldn't be shown, I've said that as an artist you have no social responsibility whatsoever."

Have you ever read the book? I think it's by the same guy who wrote Village of the Damned (aka The Midwich Cuckoos). Windham, I think his name is? _________________ "If you're talking about censorship, and what things should be shown and what things shouldn't be shown, I've said that as an artist you have no social responsibility whatsoever."

I have not read either. I've seen both versions of Village, though. I couldn't stomach the Carpenter, but I'm a big George Sanders fan, so I have affection for the original film.

Carpenter's remake was a big disappointment for me too, not only because the original is a favorite of mine, but because there are moments when Carpenter's movie makes some motions toward genuinely interesting ideas (the children's "pair-bonds") but never follows through. He seemed to be in total paint-by-numbers mode with that one. _________________ "If you're talking about censorship, and what things should be shown and what things shouldn't be shown, I've said that as an artist you have no social responsibility whatsoever."

That was deliberate, that was deliberate... I say, try seeing Commando again. I first saw it when I was around 5 and was extremely impressed by its violence [I had never seen anything like it before]; recently, I bought it on DVD and, like, loved it dude. |

I've only seen Carpenter's version -- it's okay, I guess. |

I kinda figured.
I'll watch Commando again if you watch the 1960 version of Villiage of the Damned. Deal? _________________ "If you're talking about censorship, and what things should be shown and what things shouldn't be shown, I've said that as an artist you have no social responsibility whatsoever."

Night Watchman, that's like trading Alex Rodriguez for a utility infielder. You'd be getting the good end of that deal, Mr. Lime.

I agree with the last part. (I don't know who Alex Rodriguez is or what a utility infielder is.) _________________ "If you're talking about censorship, and what things should be shown and what things shouldn't be shown, I've said that as an artist you have no social responsibility whatsoever."

Now that was predictable, Eric. Believe it or not, Commando rules. In fact, I think it may be the greatest motion picture of all time...
That said, I saw some of the original Village of the Damned on TCM, but not much -- is it, um, scary?

I wouldn't say it's scary -- more suspenseful.
Incidently, The Simpsons parodied it in one episode, with a movie hilariously titled The Bloodening. _________________ "If you're talking about censorship, and what things should be shown and what things shouldn't be shown, I've said that as an artist you have no social responsibility whatsoever."

How's about this: I think The 6th Day is a genuinely good sci-fi picture.

Whether you really mean it or not, the film isn't. It's merely okay. |

Both of those pale in comparison to Hercules in New York. _________________ "If you're talking about censorship, and what things should be shown and what things shouldn't be shown, I've said that as an artist you have no social responsibility whatsoever."
