I really liked "21 Grams" - it's impressive how determined, passionate, and elaborate all of the performances are, by the actors as well as Inarritu and his crew - but I think it may be a bit too unorthodox for the Academy. In fact, I try not to put too much stock in the Academy nominees or winners; it's fun to watch, as sort of an elaborate spectacle, but unlike the Super Bowl I don't really care who wins. I pay attention to a lot of the critics' awards and to film festival winners.
But of course, for the ultimate decision on the best movies of the year, I simply stop by https://www.flipsidearchive.com/bestfilms2003dir.html to see what flipside's three outstanding reviewers would select!!! |
