Even though I haven't said this before, both of your sites are great design-wise, Michael. I was wondering if it's just pure creation or you use some kind of guide or resource to give you structure ideas. I really want to redesign mine, but I'm having trouble thinking of a good layout. _________________ Danny Baldwin

I agree. I've always admired the visual design of the Flipside. I appreciate the clarity and colors--beautiful simplicity. Even though "busy" has become the trendy style, I always find those sites (and magazines, and TV graphics) to be overcrowded and cluttered. They look like trash heaps.

Get outta here. My web design skills stink.
In the beginning, the site looked like this. When we moved to our own domain, it looked like this. I continued tweaking and changing things every so often. Now I think I'm reasonably satisfied with the design, but I've been itching to redesign the main page. I just don't have any good ideas. But it's fine the way it is.
I don't remember how I arrived the current color scheme. Probably just lots of messing around in Photoshop until I found a few colors that I liked and looked good together. I will admit, though, that I kinda ripped off the main page design from Jeffrey M. Anderson's Combustible Celluloid website way back when. I made it my own, of course, but the main page wouldn't be what it is now without that site. The review/article pages are all my own; just many, many hours of trial and error until I came up with something that worked. I like simple. I think Flipside's design is pretty simple, clean, and uncluttered, and I plan to keep it that way. Not that I could do anything flashy if I tried.
Danny, I suppose the best way to get ideas for a new design is to do some surfing, look at well-designed websites. Don't be afraid to borrow -- just don't borrow too much. Good luck with the redesign, if you decide to go through with it. _________________ Michael Scrutchin
