2. Evil Dead

3. A Nightmare On Elm St

4. The Dentist

5. The Others

The Dentist is so bad, its good. Absolute cringe fest.

ha ha ha.

Nothing wrong with a bit of b-grade gore, IMO.

So you wouldnt recommend I spit on your grave?

I was gonna buy it, just to watch it, Im not sure about the investment now.

Although I am hanging to see it.

Interesting lists, I look forward to watching those movies I havent seen.

Thanx for the recommendations.

Keep'em coming y'all.

Like Michael, I have a fairly broad definition of what qualifies as horror.

1. Rosemary's Baby (Polanski, 1968)

2. The Vanishing (Sluizer, 1988)

3. Psycho (Hitchcock, 1960)

4. Alien (Scott, 1979)

5. Dead Alive (aka Braindead) (Jackson, 1992)

A few other favorites: Freaks, Peeping Tom, Vampyr, New Nightmare, Aguirre the Wrath of God, Dawn of the Dead, Jaws, The Fly (both), A Clockwork Orange, The Dead Zone, The Wicker Man, American Psycho, Aliens, Near Dark, The Bride of Frankenstein, House of Wax, Raising Cain, The Uninvited, Halloween, The Birds, Invasion of the Body Snatchers (both), Re-Animator, Funny Games, Nosferatu, The Tingler, and of course the 1951 A Christmas Carol.

I'm not so crazy about Exorcist, Ringu, The Ring, the Evil Deads, Texas Chainsaw, Last House on the Left, The Omen, and most slasher or gallio fare. Most of it strikes me as rather juvenile, rather boyish--although there are certainly exceptions.

Finally saw Suspiria. Despite the wonderful color and light plays, I'm unconvinced it's an exception to my broad statement directly above.

Mine's pretty generic, but:

1. The Silence of the Lambs

2. The Shining

3. Psycho

4. Halloween

5. Alien

Runners Up: The Exorcist, The Birds, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Jaws, The Blair Witch Project

I haven't seen both The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Thing in at least two years...gotta check those out. And I forgot to tape Psycho on Halloween night...I got to Halloween for my third time, though.
