One of the great directors of American stage and screen died today, Sunday, September 28, 2003. He was 94.
New York Times article
I'm saddened. Kazan has always been one of my favorite directors. For me, his best film work included East of Eden; America, America; A Streetcar Named Desire; A Tree Grows In Brooklyn; Man On a Tightrope; and yes, even the dubious On the Waterfront. His autobiography, A Life, is also must reading for those interested in the history of American cinema.

Shame. I still have to see some of his work, given that On the Waterfront (which I loved) is the only film of his that I've seen. Rest in peace, man. |

What a trip: I 'm just getting ready to settle down and watch On the Waterfront right now. _________________ "If you're talking about censorship, and what things should be shown and what things shouldn't be shown, I've said that as an artist you have no social responsibility whatsoever."
