And I've already watched the film on DVD twice. It still has it.
I'm not quite sure what to make of the "Blossoms & Blood" thing on extras DVD, but I like it. In a radio interview conducted by Elvis Mitchell, Paul Thomas Anderson said they had actually started putting together a completely different version of the film (as a DVD extra) using alternate takes, different versions of scenes, and so forth... but after becoming frustrated with the massive task on hand, they eventually would up with the 12-minute "Blossoms & Blood" piece. If you have RealPlayer, you can listen to the interview here.
Any thoughts on Punch-Drunk Love or the DVD? _________________ Michael Scrutchin

"Punch-Drunk Love" is at the absolute top of my wanted DVDs list, and I can not wait to buy it. It is one of the funniest, sweetest, and most creative movies I've seen recently (and I'm starting to think that P.T. Anderson is my favorite new director).

As much as I adore Punch-Drunk (it made my top ten last year), I'm still skeptical about Anderson. He's clearly got more pure potential than any other young American director, but I'm still waiting for that masterpiece to materialize. I certainly can't call a director with only a handful of titles under his belt my "favorite," and I also think we need to see a clearer career trajectory before proclaiming an artist one of the all-time greats. Time is the great validator.
I'm planning on picking up the DVD soon.

I'd be interested in hearing what people think of "Blossoms & Blood," the 12-minute short attached to the DVD. Like Michael, I find it interesting, but it sure feels like an artist spinning his wheels--it skillfully operates on the principle of image-flow rather than narrative, but doesn't the original feature function on that same level, with far more ambition and success?
