From IMDb:

Quote:
Famed director Martin Scorsese has been hired as a film critic for a satellite TV service after complaining about their movie review system. The Aviator director will pen a monthly column for On DirecTV, a magazine and program guide for people who subscribe to DirectTV. Scorsese will offer critiques of overlooked films on DirecTV. Executives at the company came up with the idea when Scorsese, a DirecTV subscriber, wrote to the firm to suggest changes in the movie review system.

That is awesome. Scorsese is more knowledgeable, insightful, and entertaining in the film commentary/criticism department than 99.9% of film critics. I love listening to him talk movies. I don't have DirecTV, so I probably won't have access to his stuff, but I can't think of any other filmmaker I'd rather see writing movie reviews.

Not only is he more knowledgeable and more passionate than most critics, he has what the vast majority of reviewers lack: A point-of-view. He knows that so-called objectivity yields a totally bland response to art.

This is one of the few times I have been happy about the fact that our street didn't come cable-ready so we had to get satellite.

The frequent outages have nothing on Scorsese.

We have cable now, but we had DirecTV for a couple of years. I know experiences vary, but for us the outages were pretty rare... I don't remember it really being a problem at all.

I think the outages may be due to the new DV-Rs they provide for customers rather than standard receivers. It seems as though the majority of our problems have been in the past two years; perhaps the DV-Rs are less receptive of the satellite signal?
