Very little outstanding recently. Casshern looks amazing, but the story is so weak that the whole film becomes something of a bore.

The eldest stepson has been staying over, so we're having something of a Larry Cohen marathon. Moving onto Q and the Maniac Cop series next.

The only new and exciting film I've seen is L'Appartement, which was styling, engrossing and very entertaining. I wasn't sure of the ending, but it's still worth watching.

This week, I watched two stray cats fight to the death. It was on the side of the rode. Something made me stop the car. The victor had begun to pull at its enemy.

And then it started eating. I mean that. It wasn't chewing on, or picking at... it was eating the other cat. I sat on the curb and watched for a while.

Oh, I also saw Episode III. More flash than the cat thing, I guess, but none of the pathos.

Recap of the past two weeks or so:

Cinderlla Man (Howard, 2005) - This movie essentially plays on the all two familiar movie themes, pacing strategies, and story line but nonetheless I really enjoyed it and had a lot of fun. I found myself becomng completely envolved in the story line and as one would have guessed all of the perfomances were very solid. Althought it totally seemed like a huge Oscar push for Paul Giamatti.

Capturing the Friedmans (Jarecki, 2003) - Repeat viewing of the movie, but it is still one of my favorits of the last few years.

Kingdom of Heaven (Scott, 2005) - Sure it was no Gladiator, but still somewhat enjoyable.

Star Wars Episode III (Lucas, 2005) - Much more enjoyable and entertaining then the first two, yet everytime someone opens there mouth I cringe.

The Motorcylce Diaries (Salles, 2004)

Incident at Loch Ness (Penn, 2004)

Boogeyman (Kaye, 2005) - I have no idea why I watched this movie it was horrendous in everyway.

The River (Renoir, USA 1951)

Dracula?s Daughter (Hillyer, USA 1936)

Blade: Trinity (Goyer, USA 2004)

Cinderella Man (Howard, USA 2005)

Cinderella Man works. The script is utterly conventional, but both Crowe and Howard transform it into a smart crowdpleaser that never feels rote, patronizing or bloated. Even the Braddock-as-America metaphors are handled gracefully, or at least with more finesse than in, say, Seabiscuit.

In The River, Renoir photographs Bengal the way a perceptive, inquisitive tourist might, and the tasteful images are perfectly suited for the picture?s strange, serene rhythm.

As far as Ikiru is concerned is does have a much greater intelligence and weight to it when compared to Kurosawa's samurai dramas. I was throughly wrapped up the in first part of the movie and the last part drew me in again as well, by kind of catching my off guard with its non-traditional approach to his funeral. However, the middle scene's with his two "friends" seem to play on a little long after a while, espcially the one were he is out with the author/writer. That being said I still have to say that my favorite Kurosawa movies are his samurai ones, especially Seven Samurai

Here is what I have watched since Saturday:

The Conversation- One of my favorite uses of silence in movies ever.

Mr. 3000- Good lord. Why?! Someone tell me why!? I want my two 30 minutes back... (I didn't finish it...)

Tarnation- Quite good. The soundtrack was amazing. I'm think I am going to buy this.

FREAKED- I pulled out the VHS copy of my baby to give her one last watch before I get the DVD. *tears up* She's been good to me...

Marathon Man- Like Snatch, but... good.
