Hell, shouldn?t the president of the NRA know who Michael Moore is? |
But, if Moore wants to be intelligent, then why not talk with a spokesperson? It seems as though if Heston isn't able to fight back, and Moore keeps throwing punches, it's a rediculous and disgusting act.
Also, Heston did know who Moore was, but I don't think anyone can expect that anyone who you invite into your house is going to attack you. Moore wasn't a big face before Bowling and he certainly didn't use the same tactics in Roger. Dick Clark had the right strategy. Just ignore him--there's no reason to engage in something you know will end up making you bad. _________________ Danny Baldwin

I?m not sure why the president of the NRA should be less qualified than a spokesperson to address the issues Moore raises.

The scene is certainly discomfiting. But doesn?t the question still stand: Shouldn?t Heston have able to ?fight back?? If not, how does Moore?s behavior render it irrelevant?

Well, Heston did eventually walk away. And I?m not sure Clark?s hasty departure saved him any face. _________________ "If you're talking about censorship, and what things should be shown and what things shouldn't be shown, I've said that as an artist you have no social responsibility whatsoever."

I bristled during Moore's assault on Clark. Moore presented the moment as evidence of Clark's culpability--as if Clark's reluctance to talk proved him an elitist, corporate sleazebag. To me, though, Moore is the one that comes off poorly in the scene. As he ambushes Clark's daily business, what is Moore but an unprofessional irritant? Place yourself in Clark's position. If I had been in that parking lot, I'd have felt the same way: Drive on, and if this amateur bozo wants an interview, let him call my office like a real journalist.
I agree with NW about the Heston interview, though. Observe that scene closely. Moore actively avoids questionable editing to make Heston look worse; instead, Heston does himself in. Unless Heston is merely a senile figurehead, the questions are fair. Besides, isn't the NRA's president also its number one spokesperson?

I think that assumption is as reckless--and inaccurate--as calling Moore an idiot. (Of course, I also bristle when people refer to George W. as an idiot.)
