Sparklehorse - It's a Wonderful Life
Recommended by a colleague. Like it so far. How did I miss this when it came out? _________________ "When I was in Barcelona they showed pornography on regular television. I'm assuming it's the same way in Mexico since they also speak Spanish." - IMDb user comment |

I've been eagerly anticipating this. Just started, but it seems similar in sound to Cold Roses, which is a very good thing.

Deftones, B-Sides & Rarities. While most of this stuff has been floating around online for years, it's nice to have it all on one CD, remastered and packaged with a DVD containing all their videos and some live footage. The songs themselves are mixed bag, but the all-out jam with Far on the Jawbox cover "Savory" is awesome, as are the covers of Cocteau Twins' "Wax and Wane," Helmet's "Sinatra," and Duran Duran's "The Chauffeur." The Smiths and Cure covers haven't clicked with me yet, but, man oh man, I really dig their lean, faithful take on Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Simple Man" (a song I was indifferent to before now). It's the most unlikely cover on the album (yes, even moreso than Sade's "No Ordinary Love"), but, dude, does it work. _________________ Michael Scrutchin

I've been listening to a lot of Interpol recently. They're good. I like them. _________________ "I don't like talking to people I know, but strangers I have no problem with." -- Larry David, "Curb Your Enthusiasm" |

Journey - Generations (2005) - I just found about this album after stoping in the local record store. This is a pretty good album, that gives the listener the classic Journey sound as well as showing the band trying new methods. Speaking of Journey, I got the chance to go see them last year at the county fair and had a great time. _________________ My aim is to put down on paper what I see and what I feel in the best and simplest way.

My Morning Jacket - Z
Besides a live bootleg, this is my first experience with My Morning Jacket. (Based on the ecstatic reviews, the $7.99 deal at Best Buy was too good to pass up.) After one listen through, I'm guessing this will be in heavy rotation for some time... it might be one of the year's best.

I saw that $7.99 Best Buy deal -- I'll have to pick it up. I wasn't familiar with My Morning Jacket until recently, but I like what I've heard of the new album (Amazon.com has a free MP3 download of the song "Off the Record"). They have a few songs in Cameron Crowe's Elizabethtown, and they even play Paul Schneider's bandmates in the movie. _________________ Michael Scrutchin

Not sure what I think yet, but she reminds me of Bjork, Fiona Apple, and especially Tori Amos--three artists I admire but have stormy relationships with. _________________ "When I was in Barcelona they showed pornography on regular television.
