Not that familiar with Byrne's solo work. I'll have to catch up on it. What do you think of True Stories (the movie)? Half of me is ambivalent, while the other half loves it. I think the ambivalent part of me can almost take or leave the movie itself -- although there are some wonderful moments in there -- but I'm fascinated by the uncommon purity of the artistic vision. _________________ "If you're talking about censorship, and what things should be shown and what things shouldn't be shown, I've said that as an artist you have no social responsibility whatsoever."

Part of me finds it fascinating, but most of me feels that True Stories trips over its own feet--and it doesn't help that Byrne is such a flat presence as our "guide." Many scenes leave a smarmy, foul aftertaste--too many fail to work as comedy or drama, and certainly fail as documentary or even as cartoon.
